Here is an amazing work, that combines character design and environmental painting.

Notice how there is use of saturated colors, which is usually a difficult option to make a painting realistic.

This is a great artwork. I especially like how he has got the traditional water color feel. Not sure how he does it - might be Corel Painter. But I guess, it can be done in GIMP or Photoshop by tweaking your brush settings.

Out of Blue (http://kerembeyit.deviantart.com/art/Out-of-Blue-83292813) by kerembeyit (http://kerembeyit.deviantart.com/)

The actual rendering and painting of this is great, but the striking thing, in my opinion is the gray blue theme maintained even when the coloring seems so vibrant.

This is a good example of how one can create good artwork with an almost limited color palette. :)

Would 'you got mail' be 'you've got mail' in terms of proper grammar? :P

I really like the London Rooftops. Tons of work must have been put into that.

edit: Also for 'you got mail' it looks like a common black-and-white painting with saturated colors overlayed. That or it may be using tilt angle on square brushes in Photoshop.

'You got mail' :D Yes - it would have to be 'you have got mail' to be proper grammer. :p

Hmmm - so you think it had the value painting done first with a simple color overlay? Did no get you on that tilt angle brush :(

And on that London Rooftops - I don't think I still have the patience to put that much of effort into a single work. :)

Nor do I. o.0

Even though it's said to be a matte, possible stock photos, I think it's the most work throughout this entire post.

Check out this work: Blood Is The Price of Glory (http://david-grier.deviantart.com/art/Blood-Is-The-Price-of-Glory-84345700) by david-grier (http://david-grier.deviantart.com/).

A good work, and from the style, I am not sure why it came under the best of 'Painting and Airbrushing' section. Yet, it caught my eye, at the amount of detail, and the way he laid out the composition, so that it leads the eye of the viewer around the picture.

And to think of it, I have seen this style by other artists too. There are outlines that gives it a comic look, but they are soft and go thick and thin almost blending into the painting, that gives it a more painterly look.

I have no idea how they do that. Does any one here have an idea of how to get that style?

Layer modes?

Annnywhoo it's an okay picture but I don't think I'm a fan of it. From what it looks like it appears to be a fanwork of World of Warcraft. And I think the grunge comic-book look is a new rave nowerdays. Newer tutorials are popping up about it and it's spreading like wildfire.

This is something creative and expressive that I had not seen in a long time.

True. The only symbolism I don't get is the rabbit head...

The artist says:
It express futile attempt last forever.

I would have gone for a 'rat' head may be. To symbolize 'rat race'.

hmmm....

Got to find out from where the painter comes from to research the rabbit symbol exactly...

He also does other animals like pigs or chickens. I guess in a way he's also sort of using an old classic reference to George Orwell's writings. Deterring we're all farm animals.
