This is a work I have been intending on doing for quite some time.
Here goes the very rough concepts.

There are several 'schools' or 'disciplines' in terms of classical dancing in India. There goes one by the name, Bharathanatya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bharatanatyam). (This one is from around the area where I am native of). So any how, thought I would try out some thing like this.
This particular stance or pose that I have roughed out, occurs in quite a lot of dance sequences, and I think it is interpreted as 'confidence' or 'strong attitude'.
I am not that good at drawing human figures, so I will spend some time sketching this one. :)

Did some line art:

When I drew the line art, I saw some anatomical flaws and corrected them.
I took some 'artistic license' in terms of the attire. The actual dancers attire would be a bit different.

Studying light and rendering it by traditional technique of cross hatching.

I will anyway be painting over the cross hatching - so I just want to denote the shadow areas.

Now added the flat colors under the sketch layer.

Next, I will be painting on the sketched layer itself - so that I get the edge definitions proper. Earlier, I had some problems when I painted in separate layer - the edges became too blurry for my taste.

it looks good and i love the face, but something about the right arm (her right) looks a bit off..like the forearm is too big and burly or something.

Hmmm - may be I should thin it down a bit.

Thanks, Dreleen. :)
Well, I tried fixing her right hand.

Does the left one look a bit large now? May be I can fix it during actual painting over it.

Made a copy of the line art, hid it, and then started painting on the same layer as the original line art.

Trying to establish the color range here before going in and rendering them in more detail.
