By shortcuts, I generally mean the keyboard shortcuts that avoid you from moving the pointer away from the painting area to the control area.

Let me start the ball rolling.

Apart from the apparent Copy [Ctrl]+[C], Cut [Ctrl]+[X] and, Paste [Ctrl]+[V], I use the brush resize shortcuts quite regularly.
These are the '[' and ']' key for changing the current brush size.

This shortcut is available in Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and even in GIMP. (I guess they added this feature after introducing scalable brushes (http://cgpainting.com/showthread.php?t=112) for GIMP).

Are there any such shortcuts you use regularly?

I have modified many of the shortcuts, to feel natural for me.

I use short cuts for picking the different painting tools like Air brush (A), Paint Brush (P) Pencil tool (N), Eraser (Shift+E) This are among a few in addition to the ctrl+v/c/x.

As i don't use a tablet (still waiting to buy one) i have configured Gimp to accept two keys to modify the brush size, and two set of keys to modify pressure, and two set of keys to modify brush sharpness.

I often use the 'D' to get back to the default black/white, and the X to shift between the foreground and background colors. I also use the [ and ] I think that's about it....

Right click menus are the only short cuts I use. Otherwise I just go through the menus. Photomanips are the only kind of pieces I really have to use all kinds of options otherwise I only use a hand full of tools really.

oops..Photoshop hehe sorry ^^So, you are a Photoshop user. :)

Photomanips are the only kind of pieces I really have to use all kinds of options otherwise I only use a hand full of tools really. When digital painting, I too use just the paint brush and nothing else most of the time. But earlier, I used to go to the brush control panel to change the brush size. Once I started using the short cuts for chaning the size - [ and ] - I felt like I am more in the flow. I suggest you try it out ;) - it is quite productive.

yup I do use photoshop, but don't worry it's not pirated hehe. It's a licensed copy. Granted I didn't actually "pay" but I got a license from someone who gets a volume license.

:P Sorry if I sounded accusatory. Did not mean that.

I am mulling over buying Photoshop CS3 - but not sure about it. I mean, GIMP more than satisfies for all the works I do in terms of technique, but for CMYK support. Which I would think be necessary to send it of to DTP for creating prints and selling them. Even Photoshop Elements does not have CMYK support. But that price tag on it is pretty heavy for my budget. If I could get some earnings through commission (or even start getting a part of it), I would be buying it.

If that issue is not considered, in terms of pure artistic pursue, GIMP is more than enough.

Yes - I found that too. :)

It is said to be quite rudiementary and full support would be featured in 2.6 I guess when they put in GEGL (as per GIMP Roadmap). Going to try that plugin out later today.

Resize (yes, this works with all programs), sample colors, zoom in/out, create new layer.

Basically it.
