I just registered to day and felt like saying hello. I have a strange way of finding my way to youre litle community.

It goes something like this.

By chance i happend to find one of "Nico Di Mattia's" timelaps paintings at youtube.com. I was in shock that it was actualy possible to draw something like he do. After watching all of his timelaps pantings and many more i started to search around the web for more information, and tutorials for using gimp or PS. Becuase i really want to learn a tiny fraction of what you guys do.

So after reading lots of forums and tutorials i found this lilte nice community. IV read all the posts in this forum, all the tutorials, watched all your videos and cant say anything but *clap* *clap* you guys are really good with yout tablets and talents.

Im 35 years of age and live Norway. (explains my bad spelling) Tho i have never used gimp or photoshop for anything more then what i guess pretty much everyone that dont know how to use them have. I still want to learn. Hoping im not to old yet *grins*

I read the tutorial "Shading Approach For Digital Painting" at this location (http://kalaalog.com/2007/09/06/shading-approach-for-digital-painting/) : so i have been playing around with my Gimp following this and ... oh i know its probably stupid, but well. I want to show what i made..

Welcome to CGPainting.com, lv8pv.

It is not too strange how you found out about our little community - I stumble across things just the same way.

Do not worry much about your spellings - though proper spelling and grammar is appreciated, it is not a necessity when others can understand what you are trying to convey. I don't think we have anyone from Norway here (I know Marklar is from Alaska), so you are the first. ;)

And you are never too old to learn things. Just keep practicing and you can only get better. You seem to have already grasped some of the concept of digital painting - you should do fine.

Coming to tablet and mouse. Few months back, a poll (http://cgpainting.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=1) showed that most of us do have a tablet here. We had a little discussion on tablets and budgets (http://cgpainting.com/showthread.php?t=201).

Again, welcome to the forum, and I hope you enjoy and learn. I am looking forward to seeing your artworks.

PS: What is the background of your username - lv8pv?

Thank you Vyoma.

I guess it was you're tutorial i was following for the background of that litle image i made ?

And you're right, its often the way to find things at the great web, but its not that often i actualy registere and want to be part of it. I must say, after spending the last days reading these forums. Iv got the feeling this community is really warm and friendly. I like that.

I read that thread about tablets and budgets, i was planing to buy this tablet (http://www.wacom-europe.com/uk/products/intuos/intuos3_a4.asp). Would i be buying a dead cat in a bag ?

There is one thing i wounder about it any way. The format is A4, but my monitor is a 24" LCD wide screen (1680x1050). Would that become a problem, A4 vs wide screen ? I saw there was an wide screen version of that tablet, but it was nearly twice the price, and a litle to much for me.

About my nick, hehe. You're not the first to ask. lv8pv is from my knowledge an amature radio call name, which from its leters and numbers are supose to be for some region in Netherland (at least im told) But i got it from a comic tv show here in norway where one of the characters was playing a pretty crazy amature radio operator. I copyed it from that many years back after having trouble having my old nick for my self as it was rather well used (spiff). I wanted something that only me would use, and i have yet to meet someone with the same nick any where.

In Norwegian it flows really well on the toung as well as "Lv" is pronounced almost like you would pronounced the number 11. So it would be pronounced something like eleven-eight-pee-vee only in norwegian. :)

Cheers

Interesting background you have there for your nickname, lv8pv. :)

Yes - I wrote that tutorial. I try to write one tutorial at KalaaLog.com every now and then but it is not just related to digital painting.

That tablet you are thinking of buying is one reliable equipment. I have been using the 6x11 (http://kalaalog.com/2007/05/25/wacom-intuos3-6x11-graphic-tablet/) for quite some time now and I like it a lot.

Concerning the screen resolution - I guess that should not matter that much. I am not sure though, I will try to research it a bit and get back to you. (Or someone here would beat me to it.)
