Here is a little background on how CGPainting.com was created.

It all began with a spark on interest in digital painting. Around the month of May 2007, I started to do digital paintings. I had was doing artworks before (http://cgpainting.com/index.php?topic=19.0), and even in the digital medium, but this point in time I started to do full blown digital painting.

That was also the point in time, when I became a bit more active at a forum, I had been a member for quite some time.

LoreleiWeb Forum (http://www.loreleiweb.com/forum)

LoreleiWeb Forum is a community of webmasters and photoshop artists - and a quite friendly community. Many showed interest in digital painting there. When I approached Liza, the owner of that forum, about having a 'beta'-forum for digital painting, she gladly agreed. Around the end of June 2007, Liza setup a section in her forum's graphics section, and gave the reins to me and another moderator. The section was a private section for the members, and not visible to public, yet it ran for more than a month with good participation from the members. (A good summary of the activities can be found in the newsletter (http://kmaheshbhat.com/files/dpw-newsletter-1.pdf)). (If you are a webmaster, and would like to be part of a great community, consider joining LoreleiWeb Forum (http://www.loreleiweb.com/forum/register.php)).

The focus was to foster the digital painting skills of members, no matter what level they were. They may be beginners - and would be provided with tutorials and guidance. Veterans in the field would have a platform where they could exchange tips, tricks, and ideas.

Around 18 July 2007 to be exact, CGPainting.com domain name was registered. It took me a couple of weeks to allot webhosting and setup SMF forum software, and get CGPainting.com up and running. The setup of the forum was done with input from LoreleiWeb Forum Contributers - long time veterans there. Special mentions and thanks to Elfdaughter, FaitH and Dreleen. And of course, Liza aka Lorelei.
